Currently showing at the gallery is Laurence Berry's Provincial Landscapes, paintings of specific landscapes overlaid by fragments of signage, graffiti and figures from popular culture to create complex mosaics that redefine what makes up a 'place'. As Cathy Tuato'o Ross writes in her Art New Zealand article, "the works have so many visual hooks that you are bound to be caught, or caught out, by at least one of them." Don't miss out on seeing these works in the flesh; this show runs until 27 March. A full catalogue of this show is available for $15.
Richard Lewer's major retrospective in his hometown of Hamilton is currently showing at the Waikato Museum; in addition to a catalogue that surveys some of his most important works across his career, Richard has completed a truly amazing charcoal wall drawing utilising the building's internal architecture especially for this exhibition, so make sure you check it out if you're heading down that way. Click here for a preview of Richard's wall drawing, or check out some amazing installation shots. Details about the exhibition can be found on the Waikato Museum website.
The next Art Sunday is fast approaching: on Sunday 14th March, the ten galleries in the Auckland Art Precinct will be open from 11am - 5pm. Come along and enjoy the music, the wine and, of course, the art.
Our congratulations to Anita DeSoto, who has been selected for a residency at the Leipzig International Academy in Germany.
We look forward to seeing you in the gallery soon.
