OREXART
Representing artists with integrity.
Oedipus Rex Gallery opened its doors in April 1990 with an exhibition called The Blind Leading the Blind. Over the past two decades, a very strong individual vision has emerged, along wtih a reputation for discovering new talent - and sticking with it.
While the name changed to OREXART in 2008, the gallery's mission remains the same: to build the careers of its established artists and encourage the development of promising newcomers. The exhibition programme includes a range of contemporary art forms and practice - sculpture, photography and new media - but the focus remains on painting.
The gallery is managed by its founding Directors, Rex Armstrong and Jennifer Buckley, with assistance from Designer and Registrar, Tracey Taylor.
Rex brings years of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to the front of house and runs the gallery on a daily basis. Jennifer now works behind the scenes, occupied on a full-time basis as Director of the Auckland Art Fair. She can usually be found in the back office in the company of gallery mascots, Scottish terriers Hilda and Gordon.
Welcome to the gallery. We hope you enjoy your visit.
