DYLAN LIND

Playing A Part

13 - 31 July 2010

Candyfloss (detail)
acrylic and enamel on canvas, 137 x 101 cm

Dylan Lind's new paintings push beyond the narrow confines of anything labelled 'Pacific'.

Lind's puzzle-like grids of colour mix the woven patterns of traditional Cook Island tivaevae with the abstract techniques of the neo-expressionists. Floating jewel-like triangles of bright enamel over soft washes, these paintings are both conceptual works - exploring his own cultural and urban experiences - and brilliant, abstract compositions of colour and form.

The sophistication of these new works is testament to Lind's rising status both as a new abstractionist and as an artist who is playing a significant part in redefining our notions of 'Pacific' art.
