Artist statement

Patel's paintings, with their spinning webs of gold and silver, evoke the intoxicating colour and mysticism of India and, through them, the viewer plunges into another dimension. Intricate patterns form and dissolve like blooms, clear and iridescent at one moment, consumed by the dark inky ground in the next. Through this juxtaposition of the intimate and the infinite, the work generates its mystery, creating something other worldly and incomprehensible yet as familiar, on a cellular level, as the back of your hand.
