Today we see painting continuing to subject itself to endless renegotiations and reconfigurations but always maintaining its place within a dynamic, and evolving field of art practice. We could be forgiven for being overwhelmed by the multiplicities of painting styles and subject matter that floods the marketplace, but with close observation, and a recognition of ones own subjectivity, we do have a healthy and energised creative environment. When the bland after-taste of conceptualism has gone, and the emperor is once again clothed, abstract expressionism, conveyed through the visceral painting of Christina Popovici, will continue to offer a 'window on an inner world' and expose the uncertainties of life. Through the corporeal nature of her process, and the passion for her means of self-expression, this artist demonstrates her deep conviction through the richness and energy of her painting.
