FRANCES VAN DAMMEN

Celestial

8 - 24 December 2009

Luna rosea
acrylic and resin on board, 120 cm diameter

Winner of this year's New Zealand Painting and Printmaking award at the Waikato Art Awards, Frances Van Dammen continues to captivate with these stunning new paintings. Set in glossy resin, exquistely detailed orbs of flowers and grasses are suspended like planets in the night sky or submerged like fallen moons into dense overgrown forest floors. Up close, these impassive satellites burst with vibrant foliage, as delicately arranged as a topiary or a posy and yet blooming with rich colour and curling shapes, full of energy and life.
